Semaglutide Injections: Research-backed & Effective
The New England Journal of Medicine published compelling results about the use of semaglutide medication in weight loss: Over 50% of participants who received the semaglutide in addition to their diet and exercise program achieved weight reductions of 15% or more, compared to the control group’s less than 5% weight loss who relied on lifestyle changes alone. Average weight loss for the semaglutide group was over 33 pounds, while the control group’s average weight loss was 5.7 pounds.
How It Works
There are three simple steps to starting the Redefine Weight Loss Program in Oakland County, MI:
All potential participants must have current lab work drawn to ensure they are appropriate candidates for the program. This can be done in our Clarkston, MI office or with your PCP.
Once your blood work is done, you’ll attend a virtual consultation with one of our Nurse Practitioners (NPs) to review your lab results and health and family history to identify any potential disqualifiers from program participation.
If you qualify for the program, you’ll visit our office near Lake Orion, MI for an in-person appointment with your NP to review program objectives, discuss diet and exercise guidelines and receive your first medication injection. You’ll leave this appointment with your first full month’s supply of medication and instructions for administering.
The initial phase of the program includes weekly virtual check-ins with your NP who will monitor your progress and provide ongoing guidance and support.
For the duration of the program, you’ll attend monthly in-office appointments where your NP will assess your weight loss and provide you with the next month’s medication supply.

The following criteria must be met for participation in the Redefine Weight Loss Program in Clarkston, MI:
-A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 or higher for those with comorbidities; 30 or higher without comorbidities
-Recent blood work reflects appropriate levels
-No medical history that meets the exclusion criteria (see FAQ 2 for more on this)
-Candidate has not had success with or has plateaued from traditional weight loss methods

If any of the following exclusion criteria are met, the client is not a suitable candidate for the weight loss program:
-A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 26 or lower for those with comorbidities; 29 or lower without comorbidities
-Diagnosis of Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)
-History of medullary thyroid cancer, gallbladder disease and/or pancreatitis
Your virtual consultation with the NP will explore additional health and family history to identify any other potential program disqualifiers.

Current labs are necessary to ensure the program is safe for you, and they also provide a baseline measure to gauge progress throughout the program.

If you have had labs drawn within the past three months that include all of the necessary tests, you do not need to repeat your bloodwork. Indicate this when you sign up for your consultation, and the NP will review your existing bloodwork to determine if any additional testing is required.

Medication duration is completely individualized and tailored to the unique goals and progress of each participant.

Semaglutide side effects are generally mild. The most common side effect when starting this medication is gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea, constipation and gassiness. The Redefine Weight Loss Program at Refresh & Renew MedSpa in between Clarkston and Lake Orion, MI lessens the likelihood of these side effects by starting participants on a lower dose of the medication and increasing it slowly over time.
